Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls

Look out for this one, people! We recently had the good fortune to produce the first-ever recording by 10-year-old Annika Scilipote, who came to Music for Picture to track her song "Gonna Be Who I Wanna Be". Annika (guitars, vocals) and her older sister Soreya (drums) played all their own parts, and blew us away with their enthusiasm and maturity. (We kept a very light touch on the production to keep their 'wonder-of-it-all' spirit intact.).

The budding artist came to us via the Willie Mae Rock Camp for Girls, to whom we had donated studio time. If you're not familiar with the camp, you haven't yet encountered what will certainly prove to be a launching pad for some wicked rock and roll careers. Dedicated to youth empowerment through music, the organization has drawn support from the likes of The Donnas,Wilco, and many other music and arts heavies.

New York folks can go out and support this awesome organization and see the future of rock on Saturday, August 23rd when campers perform a showcase at the Music Hall of Williamsburg.

Martha Wainwright sings The Point

We've been putting finishing touches on an album project we conceived recording interpretations of songs from Harry Nilsson's film and soundtrack The Point. The song "P.O.V. Waltz" features Martha Wainwright (pictured) doing lead vocals on an arrangement by Jim Campilongo - with Tony Mason (drums) and Jeff Hill (bass). The album also has performances by Andrew Bird, Sex Mob, Nada Surf, and others. The project is a benefit for 826NYC, the tutoring center founded by the McSweeney's cartel.

Old, New(monic), Borrowed, and Blue

We often get calls to update classic jingles. We've reinvented some gems over the years: "Raise Your Hand (Sure)," "Zestfully Clean," "Trust the Gorton's Fisherman" - pillars of another era. We just completed one such project for Citizens Bank. Cueing off the longstanding Citizens instrumental theme music, we created custom outros that segued into an updated, mnemonic version of the original. Here you can view the spots "Errand", "Kitchen", and "Small Business".
Sounds of Summer

csc We've just completed and mailed out our Summer New Music Review, featuring new tracks from Fleet Foxes, Bajofondo, Delta Spirit, Laura Marling, The M's (pictured), and lots more great stuff - some recently and some soon-to-be released. And, for the first time, we've got samples online so you can get quick tastes of our all picks.

For anyone who has yet to experience the magic that is the NMR and would like to receive a free quarterly CD subscription, please write us.
